Considering a Coach with a C-9

Wondering what you C-9 guys think of your engines, considering a Country Coach Allure powered by a C-9 with 21000 miles on it.. How is the engine for power and reliability?

We have a C-9 and it runs great with plenty of power. I change the oil at 5k or sooner and send in my oil samples to Peterson Cat. In 4k I have used around a qt of oil, Mobil 15w40. Mine has 22,000mi on it.
MPG run 6.7 going over the coast range as high as 8.3 on I-5 and I-84.
My coach wt is 33,620lbs from a 4 corner wt. with a 3200lb toad.

We have a 42ft Beaver Contessa 07 with 120k miles and C-9 400 hp. Runs great but oil changes need to be done at least by 10k. Power is good and milage is consistently at 7mpg. The coach weighs 40k and we tow a 4600lb truck. Good luck

With only 21000 miles on it, that engine isn't even broke in yet. Like previously stated change the oil on a regular basis and you will get many miles out of it.

No problems so far with ours as far as reliability and performance. A little inconvient
getting service in my area because most Cat shops are big truck service centers. What chassis do you have? That may make a difference in whether you can get both serviced at the same place.

The most significant downside to the C9 is that it's not equipped with a engine compression brake. As the coach weight goes up the performance differential between an engine brake and an exhaust brake becomes more apparent.

You guys with the higher than average miles are my role models!....I love to see RVs that are being used. Someday, I hope to be in that club!

To OP...so far I have no complaints with the C9. MPG is what I would expect and power is sufficient with around 40k GCW.

The Cat C9 is a great engine, but if you find the same coach with a Cummins 8.9L ISL it probably will get better fuel mileage.

Cat builds great engines, but their primary market is heavy equipment.

My C9 will need a new pump and injectors when I have time money. Hasn't stranded me, and tech says it likely wont, but I have a $6K bill awaiting me. I am not alone. Not to say the pump failures are "common", but they certainly don't appear to be "uncommon". ;-)

I would so that you have a baseline and know for sure what has been done.

Must be some reason for changing from you Magna you already have? Better interior layout or what?
