Coolant change

2005 expedition 38n 300 cat..had coolant replaced. They replaced with a purple color coolant. What is that and is it ok for the Cat??? Tks GlenB

Glen.

That's a question for the shop who did the replacement for you. The color of the coolant is not particularly important as different manufacturers of coolants use different colors for no particular reason.

The Cat C7 is not a wet liner design so the particular coolant is not as critical as some others but you are smart to ask the question. You should be sure that what is in there meets the Cat spec for your engine. It's also always better if you use the same coolant for any needed top up.

Cat coolant is pink and is made for Cat engines. It has the additives already in it so you don't have to add any.

As was said, the coolant in a 3126 or C-7 is not as critical as it is if you have wet liners. Here's what happens to a wet liner engine if the SCA (Supplemental Cooling Additive) isn't there:

Just had mine changed and the system flushed-a Cat Shop did mine and they used Extended Life 50/50 mix. I think it was red in color.
