Two weeks ago, while returning from Arizona in my 2005 Journey ( Cat 350 hp), the engine started to de-rate badly. I called Coach-Net and was able to get back to Las Vegas where they arranged for a flat-bed pick-up and delivery to Las Vegas Freightliner. Three days later (and a big bill), I was told that it was a fuel starvation problem caused by a clogged secondary fuel filter (30 micron) which, they asserted, had not been changed for a long time and was clogged up.

I explained that I had the oil, oil filter and both fuel filters changed last August at Speedco in Aurora, Oregon, and specified Caterpillar 2 micron filter and Speedco's brand of 30 micron filter.

Las Vegas Freightliner changed both fuel filters, the fuel pressure regulator and miscellaneous other parts and the motorhome ran perfectly back to Portland.

I pass along this experience for what it's worth...if anything.

What is odd about that is they changed the fuel pressure regulator. If it was a filter problem why did they proceed to hose you for some parts sales besides filters?

To clarify the primary filter (water/fuel seperator) is 30 microns and the secondary fuel filter on the engine is 2 microns.
