Went to the Cat dealer and bought coolant for the Tradewinds and told him that I had ELC.I needed some before we went to Vegas in Nov,so mixed it with distilled water and put it in.Got home and needed to add about a full gallon after 4K miles,so mixed the rest and put that in and before I threw the jug away,I noticed that it said DEAC CAT coolant. Is this the same as ELC or did I just containminate my ELC coolant????

Mixing Cat ELC with other antifreeze/coolants While Cat ELC is compatible with conventional antifreeze/coolants, we recommend you do not mix the two. Cat ELC is ethylene-glycol based for anti-boil and freeze protection, but its corrosion chemical system is different than that of conventional antifreeze/coolants. If they are mixed, don't add more than 10% of the conventional coolant. If you exceed 10%, treat the system as if it contains conventional coolant or drain and flush the system and refill with ELC.Found information that says don't mix ELC with more than 10% of another coolant.

Deac is a diesel engine coolant. But it is not ELC. If you have added more than 10% of the volume of your cooling system with a non ELC then you have lost the ELC qualities. bummer

Bummer,I guess that's what you get when you trust that you're getting the right thing from the parts guy at the Cat dealer. I specifically asked for the ELC and thought that's what he gave me.. Dummy,I really should have checked on it before I added it. Now I guess I'd best go out and check what size system I have.If it's over 20 gallons,I'm ok.
