Fan bearing location

I have a 2005 cat c7 330 hp.fleetwood discovery

I looked and felt for it in the right place with no luck.for the zerk fitting

Question is cat changed to a greaseless bearing around this time approx. 2002 and newer.

Can someone give me the real facts.

location i looked at was at the behind fan hub next to engine block.

thanks

I also have a 2005 c7, it is a sealed bearing, lubed for life. But they seem to have a pretty short life.

Apparently anything 2005 and up and all C7's use a sealed bearing. But if you call Cat with your engine serial # they can verify.

I've heard some people have failures at less than 25k miles while others are still going at 75k+ miles. Maybe it has to do with driving habits, some people chug along on primarily flat ground and rarely see 2000 rpm, while others regularly drive mountain passes and see extended high rpm, I don't know for sure. When I replaced mine at 28k miles the bearing felt ok, but the grease was cooked. My thinking is that the grease overheats loosing its lubrication properties and then the bearing fails.

The change came with the C-7. It is my understanding the the earlier 3126 fan bearing and pulley assembly can be installed on the C-7 since they are very similar engines. Might do a search on this forum for more info.

I can not tell you when they changed but my 2004 C-7 330 HP does not have the zerk fitting.

fan bearing

A little late on this thread but surely this topic is an ongoing one. Have a 2005 Mandalay with the C-7 , and am concerned about when and where the radiator fan bearing will fail. Seems to me that after running for a while you should be able to use a temp. sensor gun on the bearing to see if it is heating up or not and monitor it like that every month or after trips....Heat seems to be the enemy here.
