I have 5000 miles on my cat c7 engine oil and it sat all winter (four months) do you guys say change it before driving it again or put more miles on that oil, every oil change I put 15 qts of shell rotella and one gallon of lucas additive, wile the rv sat the winter about once a month I started it up and let it idle for about an hour, just looking for some opinions, Thanks. Joe

Letting a Cat engine idle does not do it any good, you might try setting the RPM at about 1200 rpm, rather than a dead idle. I think changing the oil after it has sat for several months would be a good idea. Suggest you run engine bringing it up to operating temp, then drop oil while it is hot, let it drain for a minimum of 20 minutes before putting drain plug back in, also remove oil filter while hot. Fill new filter with fresh oil, fill several times, and let oil absorb into filter media.
Good luck

I change mine every Dec. about a month before heading south for the winter, if like most RVer's you won't put on the miles in a year for a needed oil change but once a year is needed. I let mine set all summer for the most part, this year 7 month's, without a start as summer is home time. As said without a FULL warmup your doing more damage than good by your monthly thing.
My son services heavy equiptment and they let rigs set for years, new batteries, fresh fuel, new filters, prime, start, let run a few minutes, change oil and there ready to go.

Joe,
I noticed on your personal info you had an Adventurer MH. What do you have now with the CAT in it?

On my Ford V-10, it's once a calendar year or every 5000 miles. With my back sugery earlier this week, the "once a year" will probably happen first!
