Finally got home and caught up enough to get back to this. It isn't an MP-8, but very similar:
CAT Diesel Performance

Switch positions are "Off", +10%, +20% +30% power.

As I suspected. Nothing discussed here about MP-8's will be relevant to the programmer you have.

I'm sure there are specific differences, but when I researched both devices, the "how does it work" explanations were darn near identical. I've found the comments made in this thread about the MP-8 are pretty accurate for my device, but YMMV.

I'm sure there are similarities in the way most programmers work. The differences will be in the details. Just reading your description of the control for yours didn't sound like a MP-8. If it does what you want it to do that is all you can ask. You just can't expect to get answers to function questions for yours on a MP-8 thread.
