Intake heat grid relay

Has anyone changed the engine grid heater relay. The one that pre-heats the intake air.I have a FL chassis and see some relay solenoids behind the battery box is this where it might be located.Just trying to see if anyone has done this to save some time looking for it. Yes I know I need to call FL but thought I would go this route first. Thanks. Jim

Is it bad? Otherwise I wouldn't bother changing it.

The wait to start light doesn't stay on and it starts hard with a lot of smoke. It starts fine, no smoke if I used the engine water heater. It's either the relay solenoid or a sensor. Will have more time this weekend to try to figure it out, just looking for advice to take a short cut on time and labor. Jim

On a C7 the relay is on the engines intake manifold just above the heater grid.
Also there is a fuse-able link in the cable to the relay from the starter.

There will be a cable from the air intake heater to the relay solenoid. This solenoid is on the engine. My guess is you have a fuse or relay issue here. Could be a bad connection also. Check the torque on the relay nuts holding the cables to and out of the relay, as well as the torque on both heater nuts (power and ground). There is also a 2 pin connector from the relay to to the ECM engine harness. Check this connection as well.

Got it fixed, Looked around for the relay, told DW to turn on key to see if I had the right relay. When she turned it on she said the wait to start lite stayed on and its worked ever since. Do I have to give her the credit for fixing it. Jim

Did you end up changing the relay to fix the problem? I think i have the same problem. it seems to be the heater sometimes doesn't stay on long enough.

I didn't change anything. If you read post #6 you will find out what happened. Jim
