Low oil pressure switch

I have two oil pressure switches coming out of one port with a " T " . I am assuming one is a oil pressure switch and one is a low pressure shut off. One began leaking so I put in another oil pressure switch because I could no identify the one I took out. Now my oil pressure light come on when idling but my oil pressure gauge is reading good. Can one be for the gauge and one for the light ?Can someone help me with this problem ?

Yes, if you have a gauge and a warning lite requires a pressure sensor and a pressure switch. Gauge sensor with engine OFF is "normally open" contact and and engine running creates a variable signal to the gauge. The warning light uses a "normally closed" switch with engine OFF light will come on with key in run the pressure opens contact of switch when oil pressure is present, no variable signal.
The exceptions would be if light was triggered though ECM then there would be a variable sensor only. Or like my Cummins it has one combination sensor/switch with 3 wires, 2 wires for the gauge and 1 for the light.
Sounds like you installed a sensor in place of the switch.

One switch run the dash light as described in other post. The other may run (mine does) a solenoid that when closed allows the alternator to also charge the house batteries. It senses oil pressure and activates the solenoid. The solenoid also can be activated by the Boost switch that ties the two battery banks together.
