Ok I looked at my dyno sheet and my Rv put out 301HP @2265RPM with the setting at 15% and 354HP @ 2107RPM with the setting at 30% and the engine temperature went to 194 for a quick couple of seconds and 192 for the all run. And by the way this HP to the wheels not to the flywheel. Joe

Good info. Guess I'll get the longer cord...

I'd be more concerned with a high EGT than engine coolant temp. It's entirely possible for the engine temp to stay low and still burn a piston. Anything over 1300° is a danger. Unlike a gas engine it's possible to burn a diesel up from too much fuel.

Mr D,
The 1300 degree max you speak of would be right on IF the engine was like almost all the others we are familiar with but there is a big difference with the 3126/C-7 engine. The pistons are not aluminum like all the rest they are steel. They can tolerate higher EGT's without damage.I personally don't let mine go over 1350 but TS Performance has tested them at 1500 degrees for extended periods of time with no ill effects.

The newest rotary is off at 7:00 and 30% at 5:00 12:00 is about 15%. I would still worry about EGT without a Pyro at the highest setting. JMO

I've been running mine at half way on the dial so I'll increase it a bit to get a feel for the difference. I do have EGT and monitor the exhaust temp. I'm like Mr D and think 1300 degrees preturbo is a good cut off point.

I have yet in all my research to find out exactly what is triggering the alarm. It is not high EGT. It is a beep beep beep from a buzzer under the dash. Also the Freightliner monitor panel will say Check Engine. If you continue pushing hard with the alarm sounding the warning on the panel will change to Engine Protection and the computer will derate the engine power until you let up or turn the MP-8 down and the alarm stops. Not all MP-8's will cause this condition just a few.
Len,
Worry all you like it is LOWER with the MP-8 turned up.

Jim, Brazel's in Centralia has a dyno. They also have a park next to their shop (E & W). They also do alot of work with the MP 8 and may be able to trouble shoot your problem at the same time.
b.t.w. Did I tell you we sold the sticks and bricks in B'ham and went fulltime as of 200 days ago?

The alarm you experience is from the ECM thinking the fuel pressure is too low.

Jon,
Thank you for that. I presume the MP-8 is causing it. What is your guess the cure might be? 2005 C-7 350-32,000 miles. Could I bother you with a phone call next weekto the shop to talk about it? I am in Bellingham.
Any chance the Cat computer could find the issue. I have a complete printout from the computer from 2,000 miles ago when #4 injector was replaced in NC's shop in Mount Vernon. This issue has been going on for about 3 months well before the injector problem. The first year I could run with it set at 6:00 on the rotary controller and now over 3:00 the warning sounds.
Jim

If you are having to progressively turn the knob down to keep the warning lights from coming on their is something up with the fuel system. One of the ways the MP-8 achieves its gains is by telling the computer that the fuel pressure is lower than it actually is so the ecm adds more fuel. The more you turn the knob up, the lower it tells the ecm the fuel pressure is. That is why on some applications the warning light chimes, the ecm thinks the fuel pressure is too low.
