Muffler

I was told by someone that on my c-7 2005 coach 2004 chassi that as part of the pollution control the muffler is baffled and it restricts the exhaust and raises the temp. Has anyone replaced theirs and what affect it had?

This has been a topic before on this site. You may want to do a search on this forum. To answer your question, I installed an Aero 5050XL muffler on our MH. It did allow the turbo to spool up quicker and will reduce heat, however the factory muffler has a catalytic converter in it. I did not know at the time of installation. The muffler was too loud in my opinion so I installed a resonator before the muffler cutting the sound in half. I am happy with all the upgrades that I have done on our CAT. She purrs like a kitten!

For some reason the picture downloaded up side down!?!

muffler

Also replaced mine with an Areo. Weight alone was unreal. Stock one must weigh over 100 lbs!! Surprised that even without any muffler a diesel isn't that loud. Areo seems to work fine with no problems. Don't think it did anything for performance though.

I replaced mine for the very reasons stated. I also upsized air inlet with an aFe air filter. More air in more exhaust out can't be a bad thing for a diesel. Yes it is louder but not unbearable. Has a distinctive sound. More like a roar then a purr.

The aero 5050XL reduced exhaust temp on my Cat 330. Yes, it is louder - my spouse says it's "throaty".

There are members that really dislike the Areo 5050 saying it is way to loud. It doesn't drown out my sat radio music but I do hear it in underpasses and tunnels. Works for me.
