CAT recommends 15W40 oil. I just changed my oil today and I alway use Shell Rotella 15W40. I buy it at Walmart in the 2 1/2 gallon jugs. I also use the same oil in my Onan diesel generator.

How many times have you been asked what oil you want to use when you have your coach in for an oil change?
The answer is “never” for me.
The reason they don’t ask is that whatever oil you specify will most likely not be what they have in the shop.
The oil they have in their shop is whatever they can get the cheapest that will generally be OK for most diesel engines.
You never see a bunch of oil containers around the shop because they buy oil in bulk.
It’s cheaper that way. They make more money that way. Duh!
The problem is their choice of bulk oil may not be the correct oil for your engine.
Do you know what API classification of oil you need for your engine?
Is it CH-4 or CF-4 or maybe it’s CG-4?
In my Cummings engine if I use a API CF-4 class oil, Cummins tells me to change the oil within 9000 miles.
If I use a CH-4 class oil, Cummins tells me to change the oil within 18000 miles.
Caveat Emptor must be applied more rigorously now than any time in our lifetime.
I, like most you, remember a time when there was a “DUTY OF GOOD FAITH” when we were dealing with venders.
I fear that time is long, long past.
Tattoos are “in” now-a-days; it may be a good idea to get a “Tat” on the palm of your hand.
I think mine will say “CAVEAT EMPTOR DUMMY!”

That is why I buy and change my own oil and filters. I know what goes in and I know it is done right.
