Fill the new filter with fuel before installing. Run the engine at various speeds for about 20 minutes. This should remove any air from your fuel system.

Plug the center hole in the filter...Then fill it thru the small outside holes...This will filter the fuel...Then idle it at about 1500 rpms for 5 minutes or so....Works for me everytime...

Great Idea! I had never known about using the small outside holes to filter the fuel. I will certianly do that in the future.

Thank you I am totally new to this so let me recap. engine off, remove the old fuel filter and seperator unit. Remove the bottom seperator and attach it to the new filter. Plug the large hole and fill thru small holes until full. Replace new filter and seperator to motor and start and let run for five minutes varring rpm. when I take old filter off it will not continue to drain fuel until new is replaced or will it stop?

Another option is,Cat makes a hand primer pump that bolts to the filter housing. It is fairly inexpensive, I'm going this route before I change my filters again.

That's it.....Drain the fuel from the old filter via the drain from the clear bowl...The fuel will stop after the filter is drained...Another tip that might be helpful...Use 2 oil filter wrenches to loosen the clear bowl from the old filter after draining and before removing...One to hold the filter and the other to loosen the clear bowl...Sometimes that bowl can be hard to remove from the filter....Also there are 3 gaskets....bowl to filter...top of filter and a small one that goes over the male mounting threads...Lube them all with diesel fuel before installing...Hope this helps...
