Software availability for 05 Cat C7 diagnostics

Hey Guys/Gals, I'm Looking to download Software to diagnose a problem on Girlfriends Freightliner Box truck...got water in the fuel and only runs 2 mins then shuts down. I found a cable interface to hook up to laptop cheap, but no sw. I saw some places online to buy it, but $300-$600 really? Any help would be appreciated.

It would probably be less expensive to have a certified Cat technician do the testing. I had mine done on my site for $175 including replacing the belts that I had purchased.

Trying to find some free sw that I can download to work with the data cables I found...wouldn't take too many service calls to pay for it...Besides, I prefer to do all my own maint if I can.

Be aware that that CAT surely uses J1939 protocol. Scanguage D and VMSpc are the two devices I am aware of that will get the codes from the engine. The CAT dealer has more sophisticated tools. You cannot use a OBDII tool.
