I just had my 2002 Journey lubed and oil change today. This is a 3126 Cat. that has the grease zirk on the top of the engine behind the water pump pulley. I had it in last year at a reputable shop for lube and oil and assumed this fitting was lubed.
Before going in I had removed the cover over the top of the engine and pulled it out so the Tech. could lube the water pump pulley.
The tech was rummaging around in his roll away tool box and said Dang, I cant find my special lube fitting for this Zirk. (the round end at the end of the lube gun that fits on the zirk fitting).
No problem I will make a new one. He takes a new fitting over to the grinder and grinds off a flat spot on this fitting.
he says the Zirk is so close to the Pully/block?? that the end of the lube gun wont slide on.
Anyway He lubed it and said, boy was it dry.
I had bought this Journey used, when I removed the top plate over the engine it was stuck and difficult to remove.
I think that possibly this was the 1st time it had been lubed.
I was lucky I got a good tech.
Camping World==$199.00 lube and oil change.
Going to grind a flat spot on my own hand gun luber.

You can remote the zirk with the right fitting. Pretty easy to do.

I use a small hand grease gun with a 6" hard extension. Those guns have a smaller diameter end and fits on with no problem. Once the cover under the bed is off it is about a 30 second job. I give mine a little squirt twice a year even though my mileage is only 5000 miles.

Why not remote that fan pulley Zirk down to a more accessable position?
I did mine several years ago, and this way, each time I grease the chassis, I give it one shot of grease.

If you are interested, here is how I did mine.

Bill

3126 Caterpillar Fan Pulley Extension.

First determine that you do in fact have a grease (Zerk) fitting on the fan pulley bearing. If so, visit
your local Home Depot, Lowes, or NAPA and pick up the following items:
2ea 14-18" grease gun extension hoses
2ea 1/8" NPT Brass Couplings
1ea 1/8" NPT Brass 90° Elbow
1ea 1/8" NPT Brass 1 1/2" Nipple

After obtaining the above parts, remove the grease fitting from the fan pulley, and make up the
following manifold:
Take one of the pipe couplings and join the two extension hoses. Take the other coupling and
attach it to one end of the extension hose combination. Install the grease fitting you removed
from the fan pulley into the other end of the coupling. Tighten all these joints.
Attach the 90° elbow to the pipe nipple, and tighten this joint.
Loosly attach the hoses to the open end of the elbow (snug only).
Using a grease gun, pump the assembly full of grease (NLGI Grade 2 is what I use) until the
grease comes out the pipe nipple.
Carefully remove the hoses from the elbow/nipple combination, and install the nipple into the
fan pulley grease fitting opening. Tighten this elbow/nipple so that when tight, the open end of
the elbow faces the passenger side of the engine block.
Install the hose assembly into the elbow, and tighten the fittings. Route this hose extension
down along the side of the engine block, making sure there is some slack. This is done so
the hose assembly will not be broken from engine viberation.
Secure the hose assembly to a stationary attachment point. (I used a cable clamp into an
existing hole in the chassis rail.
When greasing the fan pulley during chassis lubrication. ONLY USE a manual grease gun,
and give the fan pulley ONLY ONE shot of grease. Excessive greasing is as bad as lack of
grease, since it might blow the pulley bearing seal, and get grease on the engine belts.
