What color Yellow paint does the 2005 C-13 use?
CAT has two Yellow gloss enamel paints. Which one is correct for the 2005 C-13?
There is CAT Yellow p/n 4C-4200 (458-9587) and
CAT Hiway Yellow p/n 206-6417
It looks to me like the "Hiway Yellow" is a brighter yellow (closer to engine color).
Also there is a "CAT yellow" paint by Rustoleum - which color is that? https://www.rustoleum.com/product-ca...illar%20Yellow
Neither of the Yellows in the color chart below look like the paint color in the photo of the engine (but that may be due to the photo). One is too orange-ish and the other is too brown-ish.

I did find this post suggesting the correct color is the CAT Yellow 4C-4200 http://www.irv2.com/forums/f124/has-...ml#post2220136
Quote:
In 1988 or 1989 CAT changed from the old Pacman "C" logo to the new CAT logo with the diamond yellow triangle. Machines and engines changed at this time from the lighter highway yellow to a darker yellow (with a little brown tone). CAT dealers should have a part number for each. Anything built after this time should have the new darker color, unless it was repainted incorrectly somewhere else. You can tell which you have by looking at the CAT logo if it's factory original paint.

Mike,
Originally, when I did all my major maintenance back a few months ago, and I did a lot of parts cleanup and was going to install some new parts, I wanted to use CAT yellow paint. But, I wasn't gonna lose sleep over not getting the exact match in color. I went to Home Depot and Lowes (they're not very far apart in our town) and, meandered through a few colors of yellow. I picked, at that time, with the store lighting and based on the color of the cap on each choice, with a color that I thought was correct.
Well, when I got home and painted some parts, I realize that the color I picked was seriously brighter than the yellow CAT used. When I re-coated the front section of that engine, in prep for installing all the rest of the parts, I was really happy. The heck with CAT yellow, I like mine. But, everyone's got to be happy with what they think will work. If you have access to CAT yellow paint without too much heart ache in acquiring it, then by all means, use it. I did all that nice work, painted all those parts, the front of the engine and all that and, NO ONE CAN SEE IT ANYWAYS! Oh well.
Scott

Not sure about your 2005 C-13 but when I replaced the water pump on my 2002 3126E I used Cat Standard Performance Topcoat - Cat Yellow #458-9587 to paint it...perfect match.

Scott, your engine looks nice.
I just want to hit a couple of spots on mine (around air compressor and under turbo) where there is some rust (or burnt off paint). So a getting a close match to the paint already on the engine will mean I don't need to spray as much to get it to look like right and blend in.
JaminSamin, I will order the 458-9587 (a.k.a. 4C-4200) Yellow.
Thanks

Google automotivetouchup which is part of microfinish. They can get you the correct paint. You need to call as the online site will only accept automobile specific colors.

I ordered the CAT Yellow. I'll see how that matches.
How would Automotivetouchup know whether my "engine" is regular yellow or hiway yellow? I think I would need to the give them a part number of the paint to match (or provide them a make/mode/year/body color of the car I want to match.
But thanks for taking the time to post the suggestion.
