By which number I assume you mean which serial number. It is probably on the Incomplete VIN info tag which may be near the driver's seat. If you are asking whether it is a C7 or a 3126, I'm not sure about 2004. I'd guess a C7.

Kart,
You may or may not have a C-7. It all depends on the production date of your particular chassis. Now, in looking at my VIN, there is no representation of the engine serial numbers in it. But, if you were to call the Freightliner Customer Assistance number, and have ready the last 6 numbers of your VIN, they will tell you every last nut and bolt that went into that chassis and, any and all numbers you'd like to know.

There were a few, VERY FEW early '04 coaches with 3126 engines but, the vast majority of the '04s were fitted with the C-7. The production date of our chassis was 9/03.

But, in the mean time, you can put down a mat and, crawl under the engine and, that number will be on the engine block, just above the oil pan seam (gasket), towards the bell housing on the drivers side. It's also on the front of the engine but, that's kind-a hard to get to with a rear radiator. My serial number is: KAL06566 which, is representative of a C-7.

And, one more way is, lift up the bed, remove what ever kind of engine cover you have and, look at the Valve cover. If it looks anything like the picture below, well, it's a C-7

My Incomplete Information VIN tag that Freightliner put on my 2006 chassis lists the engine serial number. I just looked at it and it also has the engine model and horsepower. This may be info they started listing after 2004. The tag is printed by Freightliner, but had to have been installed by Fleetwood as it is placed on the driver's side wall just behind the seat.

navigator,
I have a buddy who's got an '06 Itasca Meridian on a Freightliner chassis and, I have picture of his I.D. plaque by Winnebago and, I don't see any other plaque near that one. I'm curious, is this plaque you have along side the one with the tire information?

Bob,
Thanks for getting back to me on this. It appears that some maybe some coaches have that additional information tag and some don't. My '04 Horizon doesn't and his '06 Meridian doesn't. I've got another buddy who's got an '05 Meridian 34' and his doesn't.

Scott, It may be that only Fleetwood puts it on. The info is handy. Bob

If you provide Freightliner with the chassis number they will provide the engine serial number. Then contact Cat with the engine number and they should be able to provide the engine specs.

I did this with our chassis and Cummins gave me all kinds of information such as power and torque rpm as well as the recommended operating rpm.

The engine specs (Both size. model and serial number) are all encrypted in the Vehicle Identification Number.

Find a VIN decoder (Finding one for trucks may take a couple of searches) and run the VIN.. Or buy a poilce dispatcher a cup of coffee and they can run it for you.. Since that type of transaction is NOT covered by NDAs.

Have you looked at the engine? My 3126B has two silver stickers on top of the valve cover that list all kinds of data, including the engine type and serial number.

Mike,
Do the stickers you're referring to look like the ones in the pictures below? I have two stickers too only mine are on the front of the engine. The C-7 version I have has nothing on the top/valve cover, just the "C-7 ACERT".
