Hi everyone,
Looking for some help locating this zerk fitting. I believe my engine has one according to a note I ran across while searching/trying to figure this out on my own. If anyone can/would care to confirm, its a '96 3126, and my engine number is 1WM 05678.
I've looked the best I can from the bottom, and see nothing. Looking from the top will involve some gymnastics involving crawling down onto the engine through the bedroom access hole. It's too far back to be reached otherwise and totally out of sight. I'm assuming this fitting is between the belt pulley and the block? What I'm after is it's approximate location (top, driver's side, passenger side, bottom?) Am I even looking in the right location? A link to a picture or diagram showing where I should be looking would be awesome.
Is chassis lube OK, or does this fitting require something else?
Guidance/ideas on how others handle this would be great, and much appreciated. TIA, -Al

If you are referring to the grease fitting on the fan housing, then I would phone a CAT service place and ask.....or better yet, phone Freightliner, they are great helpers, peobably have a photo! Rook

I have a 3126B cat and my zerk is on the top just between the hub and engine block. I give it a couple of shots of chassis grease about twice a year and so far at 87,000 miles all is fine.

Sorry, big thumbs, little phone.
The website in my post above should have some photos since there was so much discussion on this topic.

Suggestion...
I bought an extension for my grease gun that is a thin tube that is inserted into the zerk fitting on the fan hub. Makes greasing this fitting easier.
Don't put too much grease in to the bearing or you could blow out the seal. It's not a big bearing.

For anyone following, yahoo club pic (when finally located) shows fitting at 12 o'clock immediately ahead of the fan pulley (between engine block and pulley). Posters mentioned one shot of grease was all that was necessary, in an attempt to prevent blowing the seal(s) from bearings. There were also notes regarding installing an extension, run to a more accessible location, but many were having trouble just getting to (or finding, like myself!) the fitting. Extension install would require removing that fitting then installing plumbing to install extension. I guess if you have decent enough access to allow doing that, the need for an extension is questionable?
To those pointing me to the catrvclub, many thanks! My questions are all answered.

The extension I was talking about is for the grease gun not the hub.

Regarding gymnastics, that's pretty much what I was thinking I was going to get into. Now though, at least I know where I should be looking! That's worth something....

Here's the pic your looking for. You can see the zerk fitting just to the right of the fan belt. The fitting is located at the 12 o'clock position. I have greased mine on several occasions and do it from the top. I remove my closet floor for access. I have a 3126E Cat. Hope this helps

The Cat 3126 fan hubs that are able to be greased, (not all are), have the fitting located on the top.
A friend fashioned an extension for his.
He made it from a grease gun extension tube and plumbing elbow(s), attached it permanently into the fitting threads and relocated the grease fitting to the end of that.
His bearing can now be greased from below.
Some people just have the ingenuity and ability to do things like that.
