I have an 8.1 with the 1000 trans in our fletewood 32v. There in no service called out for the internal (2nd) filter. A friend was complaining about hard up/down shifts in the same rig and the problem turned out to be a clogged internal filter???

I just changed to syn fluid and am considering dropping the pan at the 2nd change to replace the internal filter just because.

Anyone else have a simular experience with the hard shifting?

The internal filter (actually a fine screen) is intended to be changed only if/when transmission servicing requires the pan be removed. See Allison FAQ for more information.
