1994 winnibego Vectra Allison Transmission

Have a 199 winnibego Vectra (spartan Chassis Dodge Cummins 225 HP Diesel) the 6 speed Allison Transmission will not go into gear. Transmission controller is flickering but won't shift. Is there anyway to diagnose this problem using the computer terminal. I am in the AZ area. I saw where someone got a code reader and used it on his RV is it possible to use one of these to find the problem?

I agree as we had a couple if school buses that had the idle speed about 50 rpm too high for the trannie to shift unto gear. They slowed the idle about 100 rpm a d it took care of the prob.

During the years of your model, the transmission control unit is part of the shiftpad, which have their own internal power supply. If it's flickering the power supply is most likely failing, which is not uncommon for a unit of that age. I've been through the exact same thing.

Give John a call at: Transmission Instruments He completely rebuilds these controllers at a very fair price with exceptionally fast turn-around.

Or, you could be good with electronics and find that it's a faulty solder joint in the middle of the circuit board just under the main cover. Found easy with a heat/hair dryer (they work when heated up), then isolating down to the bad solder joint using a can of air gust (cold spray) when it's working and powered up. Once the cold hits the bad solder joint, it shuts down. I fixed mine, didn't pay a dime. Some salvage yards want $2000 for these things. If you don't know what you are doing, send it off, but if you have a little spirit and have done kind of stuff before you will save some money, maybe even continue your trip in a couple of hours.
