2000 Safari Allison shift pad wont lite up

After changing battery the issue began. I haven't found any bad connections. Took the ECU to Allison and trouble code indicating
Primary shift selector or RSI LINK fault. Could someone help me with the proper troubleshooting info? Also the location of the neutral/safetey switch? I'm a new member and glad of it

Did you make sure you connected the power wire for the transmission after removing/installing batteries?
In the battery compartment there should be a 10-12 gauge wire that leads to a fuse. This is power for the transmission. Make sure the fuse ends are clean and the same size ground wire is clean and attached.
Many people have spent days and Hundreds because of this fuse holder or bad wire connection.

2000 Safari Allison shift pad wont lite up

Hi J Allen,
You might want to post your problem in the Allison section of the power train section of this forum. A couple of the members that frequent that section of the forum are Allison techs or former.
Jeff

Well disregard, I see they have moved you to the Allison forum.

The fuses and relay near the batteries are encased in a resinous block with aluminum
Backing. I can see its a component of wiring harnes.
Im getting some dodgy resistance readings ,i think.
Are these things known to fail?

This is very good advice! Ask me how I know?
Changed out a house battery that failed, got all done, went in to start and make sure everything was ok, no shift pad lights, nothing! Went back out to the battery's, looking all around, there is a blade type fuse laying there on top of one of the battery's? Traced one of the wires back from the battery, and there was the fuse holder, no fuse! Plugged in the fuse, went back inside, WaLa! Shift pad all lit up! Rail!

When my shift pad did not light up, the engine would not crank.

Ultimately established a new ground contact connection for the Ignition Solenoid and all was well.

I just went thru this last week. I knew about the power supply wire at the batteries and had checked that out. My shift pad would not light up at all either. After some more troubleshooting using an Allison Dealer Test Unit and $$ to the local Allison Dealer, it appeared to be my ECU or "TCU", which the shift pad is mounted to. I got another ECU, used/"refurbished", mounted my Touch pad to it and it lit up like normal and our RV started, moves Forward but I can not select Reverse now. It doesn't beep when I select Reverse... So back to the Allison drawing board!!! BTW, it pulls no "codes". Moral of the story, it can be something other than the "power" wire issue that I have helped others with in the past, after they changed their batteries out. But that's a good place to start.
