3000 Allison Temperature
What's everyone's transmission temperature running?
OAT is about 75°. Transmission is running about 205°. Thought it use to run in the low to mid 190's. The engine seems to be running normal at 190-195°
changed out the engine oil last month. Just got results back from Blackstone and all levels were fine.. Also just got back tranny fluid test and it's perfect also.
Coolant level okay. Test strips all within spec. I don't have a coolant filter. I did replace the plastic coolant tank with the aluminum one from Source a couple months ago.
Cummins 400 ISL with 3000 allison. SIDE RADIATOR
Trans fluid level is fine. Shifts like it always has, no difference there. Possibly a sensor?

Sounds about right in the 3000, my transmission temp. [by silverleaf] was always about 10 degrees higher than coolant.
Only exception is if you have a retarder.

Mine usually runs within 20 degrees of the motor. The temp did go up after changing to Transynd

My 4000 runs within a few °'s of my engine, unless in heavy stop and go traffic, then it'll go up some.

Maybe I'm having a senior moment, but I thought for sure the temp was within 5° of engine when driving on straight and level. Going up hill, engine temp would go up. Going down the hill with the exhaust brake on, tranny temp would go up. I just don't remember this big of difference in straight and level. I guess I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks for responding.

Hi Bill; During the summer, running flat down I-5 the Silver Leaf shows about 185 for the coolant and 175 to 180 on the Allision. This is in our 01 Windsor with the ISC.

thanks. That's what I'm talking about.
I don't have the silver leaf. I have the original Aladdin Jr. The 205 ° just seems high. Even during the summer (110°+ OAT) I don't remember it being that high during straight and level.
Anyone know where the sensor is on the tranny? I've been trying to read up on it's location. Thought I'd test it when I have time.

At 65 mph on level ground my Silverleaf shows the 3000 runs about 10 degrees hotter than the ISC. When the ISC goes above 200 the fan kicks in and both 3000 and ISC temps quickly decrease.
It was a 5 degree differential prior to switching to Transynd.
Sounds like what you are seeing is comparable to what the rest of us see.

You are certainly in range with your temps. I understand your concern if the transmission temps have gone up relative to engine temp.
You might check the concentration of your engine coolant. I had let my coolant get a little too concentrated before I changed out the coolant & it was about 65% ethylene glycol. As the water component goes down, heat transfer declines. When I changed out the coolant & got the ratio down around 50/50 my trans temps declined substantially relative to engine temp.

Yes, it does sound like that. I guess my concern is why is it's different (higher) than it was before. Coach came new with Transynd and never put anything in there besides that.

I thought about that. Last time I cleaned it out was about a year ago. Maybe time to do it again.
Being a side radiator, it usually isn't too dirty, at least in my past experience.
