Best to avoid stripping them but if you do Allison (and many others) make Helicoils to fix it. Probably not a hard or long job to do.

Today I changed both filters, piece of cake. My torque wrench only went up to 250 inches so that's about 21 foot pounds, I need to borrow one that will get to the 48 foot pound target. It's all buttoned up and the 12 bolts need the final torque.

I went to the Allison web signed in as a guest and plugged in my s/n I was hoping to find a part number for the correct filter and a place to order them but never could get that far. Is this information available? If so, i was looking on the wrong place. It found my trans calling it a 3000 but that was about the extent of what i found?

Frank,
The Allison site gives you the transmission build information, I got the filter numbers from my Allison book that came with the coach. The filters are either 4" or 6", the 4" fits the 2" sump and the 6" fits the 4" sump. The new filters along with the Transynd fluid have a much longer life expectancy that the old style did. I don't intend to service my transmission for another 75,000 miles.

The Allison "my transmission site" was finicky and I needed to close it out and retry a number of time before it worked.
