3000 output shaft

I have a bearing whine(very annoying under load) and slight leak at output.
Anyone ever replaced output shaft bearing and seal?
I'm thinking this is one I might not want to tackle, myself.
Any idea what an Allison approved shop might charge for this fix?

I had it done some years ago but it was under warranty. Took them a couple hours while I waited.

Allison certified shop is looking at it.
They think 6th gear is going.
Shop said cheaper to install re manufactured than to fix existing.

Anyone have any input here?
Any idea on cost of replacing with reman from Allison?
Trans, I believe is a 3000mh
I have around 50,000miles on unit.

Is your noise only while traveling at speed, 58 mph +
That's when my coach is running in 6th gear . Allison 3060 .
If you have the same noise ; under load in 4th , 5th and 6th. I'd question the bad sixth gear diagnosis.
Didn't the shop give you any quotes ?

JMHO: If the noise is constant through the gears under load , I'd be tempted to have the output bearing/seal replaced and drive the coach looking for improvement or elimination of the noise. This is of course assuming the differential , pinion bearings and gear set , have been eliminated as a possible cause of the noise.

Thx, skip

It's Friday and the shop hasn't finished their diagnosis and confer with Allison.

Said this was their initial diagnosis.

I can't remember the whine in any gear but 6, because that is where its at when traveling, mostly.

The whine(sounds like a bearing whine) is under load, it quits when releasing accelerator(no load)

On hills, I downshift and no whine.

Any ideas on cost of re manufactured 3000mh?

No and I hope I never have to find out , 46RH in my 2000 Dodge 4X4 was bad enough.

Sixth gear is an overdrive and sometimes there are transmissions that whine in sixth.
What makes them think the transmission is failing?
Is there a lot of metal coming out when they pull the drain plug?

Update:

I took this problem to Rush truck center, they talked with Allison and didn't believe it was the transmission.
They took the rear diff cover off and found a broken tooth on the ring gear.

So, I guess this no longer belongs in the Allison section.
Work to be completed early next week and I'll report the results, hopefully a much quieter ride.

So that little piece off of one tooth is making a whinning noise If its coming from your diff, I would suspect carrier or pinion bearings.

How many miles on RV?

I guess getting the ring gear and pinion replaced with all new bearings as well will exclude the Diff making your noise

The complete carrier assembly was replaced, bearings and all.(spicer, I believe)

Cost was $5300

Can only hear tires on the road now, the whine is gone.
