I've got a new coach with 2000 mi on it. I'm not happy with the existing shift points. As I understand it, the 3000 learns the owners driving "style" and automatically sets itself to them. My problem is that with 1200 mi on the coach when I bought it, it set itself up to he wrong driver. Is there some way, short of taking it in to a dealer, to clear its settings and program them to my my style?

Have you checked the manual?

Are you running with the "economy mode" button on or off? Off and it will accelerate faster.

Does the 3000 actually "learn" shift points? I know when driving in Econo mode it shifts much sooner-lower rpms.

It can be reset, the method is in the manual OR just keep driving and it will learn as you go.

With a new coach, the 3000 manual is one of ten thousand manual pages I must read, understand, remember and then use. I knew THE answer might be in there, but I was hoping someone would be courteous enough to tell me without correcting my behavior.
Thanks everyone else.

I downloaded the manual and have not found information on how to reset it. Probably a one liner in the middle.

This re-learning thing has me bum fuzzled as mama would say. So the DW drives in the morning and I drive in the afternoon. How long is the learning curve? I read through my manual and it mentioned it could be reprogrammed by a technician for a different shift point to 6th gear. I didn't read anything about it self learning.

I just posted over on the FCOC Yahoo message group this question. I'll post back any relevant information.

Steve from the FCOC group posted this response:

I have been told that at a dead stop shifting between Drive and Reverse
without going to neutral resets the transmission and learning starts
over. Then to maintain your settings always go through neutral when shifting
between drive and reverse.

If ElkHartJim is correct I doubt my 3000 has learned a particular pattern. Seems like most often I push the button D to R and R to D without hitting the N button (always at a complete stop). I'll try the neutral button and see if I can tell the difference. I'd also be interested in hearing if going through the neutral seems to have made a difference in shifting patterns for anyone.

You all are worried about something that is way beyond your comprehension. Unless you have a real complaint about the way it operates, just drive it and work on something your understand. The real answer is that it requires a considerable amount of time to change and to get your shorts in a knot is a complete waste of time and is beyond your direct control.

Here are two more posts from the FCOC group.

Re: [FCOC] Allison 3000 Shift Points

It's not a one-time thing - it continuously learns about the driver's habits.

I think you could force it to re-learn quicker by removing power from the TCU

(transmission controller). Not sure where it isconvenient to do that, though.

Re: [FCOC] Allison 3000 Shift Points

This gives rise to the question: Does the tranny have its own battery powered
memory or does it lose programming if the batteries are left disconnected for a
while?

A bit test today aren't we? A poster makes a normal suggestion and you come all unglued. I think your behavior now does need correcting, this is a friendly and amenable group, posts like yours are uncalled for and not necessary.

BTW, the answer to your question is in the manual.

You see that's the difference here. I don't think asking a question looking for help is unreasonable. And I don't think being told to read the manual is either helpful or courteous...unless you think you're dealing with teenager or idiot.
And a rebuttal post like mine is called for, when I think someone wants to one-up the OP or demean the question.
It's very doubtful that if we were sitting around a campfire you would look over to the new guy next to you, if he had asked that question, and tell him to read the book.
Courtesy can be easily lost behind a keyboard.
BTW CAT 320 sent me a pm to discuss this and as far as I'm its behind us at this point, unless you want to continue.
Oh, and I got the help I was looking, thanks to everyone else.
