Can you guys tell me what your average tranny temperature tends to be, especially during the summer, while running down the road?

Mostly around 185 F. I have reached 205 degrees when the outside temp was over 100 and climbing from Kellogg Idaho to the Montana border on I-90.

Ours runs in the 185-190 range towing a 3800# Toad. Highest I have seen is 202 in the mountains with outside temp pushing the 100 degree mark.

Bob,

Are you using an analog dash gauge or monitoring the temp from the data bus? If analog, you will need to observe normal range over a long period of time & conditions. If off the data bus then your temp is more realistic in terms of the actual temp. Generally, the trans temp will track the engine temp within 5-15 degrees. The trans fluid cooler is inside the coolant radiator so that becomes the lowest your trans temp will likely be. Allison considers 250 degrees f in the sump as overheated. Stop and go driving with the converter unlocked is generally when you will see temps rise. If you actively manage your engine temp when climbing and shift to "N" if stopped in traffic & trans temps rise you will be fine.

190 range, + or - 5. Still look, as it is my nature - but rock solid over the last 18 months that I've had this coach. New flush and add of replacement of Transynd, made no difference.

Mine ranges from 206-212 towing 4 DR Jeep (approx 4700 lbs.)My coach weight loaded is about 41 K lbs. Engine temp is 199-203. Consistent since new and now 52 K miles. With heater turned on temps drop 15-20 degrees.

Bob,
You have seen a number of responses here. I have a 2007 HR Endeavor. I toured the Roadmaster factory in 2008 and was suprised to find the transmission cooler was a free standing unit not in my rear radiator. I know yours is a side radiator so it could be different. I have the Aladdin Jr. monitoring system and my transmission temperature is usually in the 165 to 175 degree range. If I am doing alot of city driving it will climb to 185.

We seem to maintain 185 both on the dash gauge and on VMSpc. Up hill, down hill, desert or anywhere else.......towing or not a steady 185*. When we tow we either tow a golf cart on a trailer or the Jeep in the sig.

My VMSpc shows about 198. My transmission fluid is cooled by the engine coolant. Dash gauge stays at 200.

Thanks all for the info... It looks like mine appears to be normal, based on what you guys are saying. Last spring (March/April) it was in the 190 to 200 range on a 4000 mile trip. Due to factors beyond my control we've spent most of the summer in an RV Park so haven't been on the road much. Went from Colorado Springs to Denver the other day and noticed it running in the 203 to 208 range on the Aladdin monitor. Dash Gauge stayed in the lower area. So I guess I'm doing okay.

Mine is same as Dennis's, separate freestanding trans cooler in first bay behind the driver's side rear tire, big by huge with it's own fan.

Trans temp runs at 172 max

When we first bought our MH it was fall so no warm temps in central NY. I actually called the dealer and asked if the analog gauge might not work. He said they don't move off the peg much. Of course I thought BS on that. Then after a 45min drive I tried the press both arrows on the control to check the fluid level. I came back with an error code that I nervously looked up in the manual. Not warm enough to read. Wow they don't get very warm. We never saw the gauge move much off the peg until we got all the way to Florida and some sunshine and warmth.

I kind of obsess about watching the gauges. If something is starting to go wrong I want enough time to get off the road safely and prevent any damage. When DW is at the wheel I keep peeking over her shoulder. So when the trans temp starts to even get to the normal operating range I start to worry. Yes, I know, no need to but I guess it is better to be overly cautious than lackadaisical.

I am not sure how warm it does get without looking at the gauge. Maybe after this cup of coffee.

I have same problem, if not on long haul with hot outside temp, [80f] my 2004 Monaco with 3000 Allison , 350 ISC Cummins will not get hot enough to check fluid with key pad. I tried to check with dip stick, had to give up as oil would always travel up stick. So far no ill effects. Will be on road soon for trip to Arizona. As they say,[so far so good] 2 years 10,000 miles.
