Allison 2000 torque converter issue

On my recent 4000 mile trip, I started getting occasional check trans light, I would pull over and shut down for 10 min, restart and all would be fine.

By the end of trip, the light was coming on and the restart wasn't working. I noticed prior to it coming on, the torque converter was frequently locking/unlocking on level road at constant speed. Thankfully this happened close to home, we made it in limp mode.

A couple hours later, I restarted it, light was off, and everything was working again. Any idea's before I go Freightliner?

I don't have the electronic shift pad, how do I extract TCM error codes?

MH is a 2002 Coachmen 370DS, Cummins ISB.
Trans fluid level is perfect, doesn't smell burnt.

Thanks,
Todd

I did try google, no luck.

JA3664EN.pdf doesn't get into specific electronics, it refers to ts3192en for that.

Thanks for trying though, it does have some good info.

My first guess to the transmission issue, heat related ! Why I use th VMSpc, shows all including temps etc. guess it cooled down when got hone, why it now seems perfect again.
Not knowing the temps is driving blind to me.

It had all fluids changed at 65000, I just rolled 74,000.

It's using Dexron though, not Transynd. The trans temp light doesn't come on, I will be investigating the VMSpc for sure.

I looked at the Silverleaf website for info on VMSpc, I see nothing detailing how or where I purchase a JIB to interface to my MH, am I missing something?

OK, I found some third party resellers, is around 300 typical for the interface? Seems expensive for what is likely less than $10 in parts....

Myguess would be you have the 9 pin connector or the data, used by Cummins, VMSpc, Allison. It will take a little to get it setup, but a joy having more if than you ever thought including fuel mpg gal in tank mph etc.

You have no idea, once you have the VMSpc, you will wonder why you waited so long. The single most important item on the dash. If price is an issue, I understand.

I certainly recognize the value the data VMSpc will give me, I will be getting one for sure at some point. A comparable interface for OBDII cars costs around $150, but like everything else on the RV, the prices always seem to be double.

I had my codes read, looks like my ABS sensors are providing the TCM bad speed data, t-shooting continues.....

I believe I have figured this issue out, and I am quite surprised at what the cause of the issue turned out to be. I drove the MH 2 hours and ~100 miles in hilly terrain yesterday, and the issue did not reappear.

The ABS error code I had stated this "data valid but below normal operational range" I got this error for 3 of 4 sensors. I checked all the sensors and reseated the connectors at the ABS module (all seemed tight and clean).

Just before a test drive, while idling, I noticed the serpentine belt for the alternator was squeaking, upon inspection it was quite loose. I had noted while on the my long trip my volt meter was wondering around alot.
I tested the voltage while idling with a load, headlights and dash fans etc, and the voltage would frequently drop below 12v. This was long after the intake heater was done cycling. Further inspection of the belt tensioner showed it was against its stop, unable to tighten anymore.

I replaced the belt and now I have steady voltage, around 13.8, noticeably louder fan noise while revving above 2000rpm and no check trans light. All because the charging system wasn't keeping up as the belt slipped.

Anyone ever have anything similar cause a trans issue?

Todd
ps the belt I removed was 1 inch longer than the cummins specified belt.
