I have read on another thread that a 5speed trans. is a 6speed with the 6th gear locked out. Is thear any truth in this and if so what is the serial # for the ones that ca be changed. I have a 2005 dolphin on a 2004 w22 chasis.

The 5-speed does have enough clutches and gearsets to become a 6-speed, but it's not a simple matter to convert. There are additional components within the valve body to accomodate the additional gearing and of course the TCM software is different. I don't know of any instances of a conversion or what may be involved.

Welcome Mr. Goodwrench,
Welcome to iRV2, we're really glad to have you here as a new member and are looking forward to reading your posts sharing your GM knowledge and expertise as an ASE/GM Master Technician. We have many GM related threads and posts such as this one here in the Allison Transmission forum. Others forums related to GM products are the Duramax Engines and the Workhorse Custom Chassis forums.
You'll find a great bunch of folks on this site who are very knowledgeable of RVing, the rigs we use, and the places we go in them who are eager to help and share their knowledge and experiences with others. Your participation and help will be greatly appreciated by all.
Again, welcome to iRV2, we're glad you joined.

Mr. Goodwrench,
I would also like to give you a warm welcome...We have something in common...as I work at a GM dealership in Eugene, Oregon and had previously worked at GM dealerships since 1992.
I love the idea of a GM/ASE certified Master Technician participating on iRV2! I certainly know you have access to the correct information for our members here.
Thank You again...and welcome to iRV2!
MM
PS....I can always give you a GM Goodwrench Bobblehead photo for your avatar!

Thank you, MonacoMama, for the warm welcome.
While I am a busy technician, I'll try to help when I can. It's interesting that you also work at a GM dealership.
I have always enjoyed servicing GM vehicles and started my career as a GM technician at a Chevy dealer back in the mid 80's.
Regarding the avatar, I did make one up and it is visible in my public profile, but it doesn't always show up in my posts.
Thanks.

It looks good to me, I can't figure why it's not coming up.
.... at the moment it looks like Avatars have not been turned "ON" in this forum ??
