JG gives IRV2 members a 5% discount - enter "IRV2" as the coupon code when checking out.

Get the "Advanced" kit for tranny fluid analysis and the red [oil] extraction pump if you need one.
Hi Gary
was just online looking at that site. Is the tranny and oil test kit the same you just use the advanced for the tranny. Also do you need separate red oil extraction pump for engine and tranny?

There are many many labs. They're probably all good. We don't presume to know "who is the best".

For the engine oil on our 2 daily drivers, we have used "Blackstone-$35" and "Oil Analyzers Inc-$25" labs. Recently I took a sample from one of our daily drivers and sent it to both labs. The resulting data ea lab got was nearly identical as it should be. But, OAI said to change the oil immediately, and Blackstone said the oil was good to go still?

I went with OAIs more conservative recommendation.

We hope this helps.

Don

Red pump does all oils. Advanced Kit can be used for both engine and transmission. Note: Advanced kit includes TBN (for engines) and TAN (for transmissions and differentials). Advanced kit enables you to extend drain intervals because it measures oxidation in additional to everything else.

You buy the sample kit from JG and the price includes the analysis. You also get access to the online Horizon system that maintains a database of all the oil samples done under your account name, so that you easily can compare trends over time.

As Tom says, you use the same pump for all fluids - just change the extraction tube each time (you can get 1/4" plastic tubing in most any hardware store). There is nothing physically different about the kit you receive - you are just paying extra for the "Advanced' analysis that Tom described.

I got the results of my analysis the other day via email (handy) and also online via the Horizon tracking system. After 8 years (but only 62k miles) of use and only one (recent) filter change, the Transynd in my 3000MH still looks fine. It showed a slightly elevated lead content which will bear watching, but everything else was well in the normal range. A common source of lead is normal wear of the clutches, so this is indicated only as an item to watch rather than a problem.

I won't do another test until this time next year, after the main summer travel season is over.

Allison Transmission

There appears to be 7 options for TES 295 oils. Let you know later if one of them costs less.

All of the TES oils are hard to find. The best I have been able to do is from an RV place near Dallas who has an inventory, for around $145, from a batch he purchased for speculation. He is the most reasonable. I am a John Deere retiree and expected to go to the local dealer and buy their TES oil, but only the Construction Division has it in in stock which do not have a presence any where near. They can get it shipped in however.

My conclusion is to get and oil analysis and go from there. I have an 08 year engine and only 10,000 miles so good chance it will test ok. I have decided do the some for the coolant. The local Tractor Supply has suitable coolant in stock, but getting anything done on the RV locally is a challenge. I did find a quick lube place who will change engine oil.

Send a message via AIM to oemtech
No difference... one you pay when you send the sample in and the other you pay before you send the sample in.
