Planning on changing my 5 speed Allison over to TranSynd. As I understand here, I should drain the tranny and change the spin on filter, refill and run it to get it circulated and then drain again and change the spin on filter, and refill. Is this correct?

Also how much fluid do you think I will need? I can get 5 gallon for $145.

Once the change is done, I also understand I should be good for 50,000 miles or 48 months is this also correct?

If this right at that time do I change the fluid and spin on filter or do I change the spin on filter more often?

Don't be afraid to hurt my feelings with a response, I take no offense to being corrected. I look at it as a learning experience and maybe I can help out the next person.

Thanks
Ed

Ed, I'm assuming your tranny is currently filled with dino oil. Good choice to change to Tran Synd.

Drain your transmission (try to let it drain overnight if you can), change filters and fill with Tran Synd. Run it in this configuration for 12 months. Then do another transmission service (fluid+filters) with TranSynd after the 12 months.

After 2 fills Allison considers it fully synthetic, and you can go to the longer service intervals. 36 months for filters, and 48 months for fluid.

Don't drain, fill, drain and re-fill immediately in sequence. You're wasting at least 12 months of driving on your first fill.

i let my moho sit unused for about 3 weeks and drained 13 1/2 qts including the spin on filter. allison says the new fill is 14.1 qts.
i installed amsoil torque shift tes 295 synthetic fluid. my tranny operates quieter and shifts smoother.
don't forget about the large size washer type magnet installed on top of the filter. check it for filings, clean, and reinstall it on the new filter.
it is important to use the proper allison filter. other brand filters have been known to disintegrate.
i had the overdrive shift upgrade installed at brazels in centralia, wa recently. now my 1000 5 speed will shift into od at 48 mph @1600 rpm under light load conditions. it is working well.
