Allison service?

I just picked up my W. Forza from the freightliner dealer doing engine, generator and chassis annual. Costs were fair. Except… they wanted $600 to do fluid and filters for the transmission? Allison 6 speed series 2. Looking for recommendations, please. There has to be a better way. Rig is 2015 with 21000 miles. This would be the 1st transmission service. Looking for experienced advice. Thanks!

Should already have Transynd or equiv in it. Only things needed are 2 new filters and replenish maybe 1 gallon of fluid. Doing it myself for less than $125 easy. Oops, what transmission do you have? What I said above is for the 3000 and 4000 MH units. If you have a 2100 or so then it's one spin on filter and less than a quart of fluid.

Only 1 gallon, sounds a little low, for any transmission.

For $600 you might want to get a breakdown of what they are going to do?
Sounds to me like it is more involved than just a service!
If they are doing the Recommended Allison by the book Service it is more involved than just a Filter and Top up.

I do agree with this fellows comment as they may be doing more than is required at nothing but expense.

The ONLY filter is Allison part number 29539579, and it costs around 10 bucks at Allison dealers. $25.00 for same filter in an AC Delco box at Chevy dealers. The TranSynd ATF does not need replacing at 21,000 miles unless contaminated by dirt, water, or coolant. Testing by JG Labs or Blackstone Labs to confirm the fluid is still good costs a LOT less than what you've been quoted. The external filter mentioned above was SUPPOSED to have been changed at 5,000 miles, and IF that was done, you don't need to change it either.

I suggest you visit the Allison forum here on iRV2 to read more about fluid testing instead of getting ripped off for a fluid and filter change you are not likely to need.

Thanks! Moved over to the Allison forum as suggested. I didn't find it on my initial search. Thanks.

Using the touch pad, +&- at same time. @36k miles I'm at 91%. At this rate it will be 350k miles before it needs service. 3000MH 2014.
Check before you do anything.
