Allison temp while parking?...
I have been noticing lately that the temp on my Allison hits 215-220 while maneuvering into a parking space ( back and forth)is this normal? Average temp on highway today for over 400miles was 195-200 and the ambient air temp is 96*f.. Other than what I described its running great..
Thoughts opinions..

I don't see a problem with those temps, perfectly normal for the conditions.

The only time my ATF goes over 200 degrees is when I'm maneuvering at slow speed - back and forth.

That's pretty much the hottest time for most trans temps. no issue.

We were in 105 degree weather, twoing our truck and having to do some maneuvers in town and the trans temp went to 220, triggering the alarm I HAD set on my VMSpc. I later did some research and the Allison is fine to about 245 before you need to worry.

Very normal situation. The torque converter is a heat producer when it's unlocked, as it is in 1st & 2nd.

Allison operators manual also states , max 5 mins. idle in gear if stuck in traffic , to prevent over heating. If you're stopped, shift to neutral, if you are just crawling along manually select a low gear, first if necessary, to keep the engine RPM up and coolant and trans fluid circulating, through the rad and coolers.

I'm in agreement with all the posts stating this being a normal indication, how ever since you are just lately noticeing this increase in temperature, I would do some preventative maintenance as in cleaning the exterior oil cooler if so equipped.
If you have the liquid to liquid cooler just keep an eye on it, noting engine temp is not creeping up also.

That is how the three Allisons I've owned have behaved. Another thing that may seem counter-intuitive but makes sense is that the transmission temp will increase on long down-grades while the engine gets cooler.
It's in a similar way that mechanics will raise the temperature of the transmission when necessary while working on them. Apply the brakes, put the transmission in gear, and increase engine RPM. As owners we can do the same thing to get the temperature up so that the selector-pad oil check conditions are met if we have not been running down the road and want to check the oil level.

As noted above, my Allison 3000 started getting hot only once...sitting in a traffic jam. Put in neutral and it went right back down.
