What does the MODE button do? A: The MODE button may allow the driver to enable a secondary shift schedule or other special function that has been previously programed into the electronic control unit at the request of the OEM. For example, the OEM for a motorhome may have provided a secondary shift schedule for improved fuel economy. The name of the special function (ECONOMY) should appear on the MODE ID label adjacent to the MODE button. Pressing the MODE button activates the ECONOMY shift schedule and illuminates the MODE INDICATOR (LED). Other special functions which may be activated by the MODE button are D1 selection or PTO enable. The MODE button is also used to view diagnostic code information.

Understood, but logic would tell me that when pushing the mode button a green light would illuminate, not a red light ?

Good point.. Red indicates you are in a secondary or alternate shift pattern mode (caution). Not that it's bad, but it is the seconday mode.

I didn't know about changing modes so I would have to say I use the Normal Mode all the time and go up and down when needed, ave. on trip from East Tx to Custer S.Dakota to Yellowstone Cody and back down to Austin by way of Cheyenne down 287 thru Amarillo 8.1mpg,and wind alot of the time!

I use the economy mode 100 percent of the time except for when we encounter mountains or large hills. I then exit economy for that period of time, especially if I am using the cruise control.
