Allison Trans Problem

Bought my parents MH last year, 1999 Fleetwood Discovery 37ft. This past fall we drove it from AR to Disney in FL no issues whatsoever. Went to drive it last week and started fine, shifted into 6th gear fine but only went about 100 yards before it downshifted to 1st and stayed there. In fact in order to shift out of 1st gear I had to shut down the motor and restart it. Simultaneously two lights came on upon downshifting to 1st, "Check Transmission" and Transmission Hot". Fluid level is fine. Trany is an Allison MD5060 matched up to a 275 HP Cummins. Any suggestions or ideas would be deeply appreciated.

I looked at the tag and it looks like 3060 instead of 5060.

Thanks

I would suggest the first easy thing to do is get out the owners manual and read the diagnostic codes. That will tell you what the transmission controller is thinking.
If you get the code for hot oil, you can verify the overheat condition by using a laser thermometer pointed at the to cooler line.
The idea is to find out if it's really overheating, or if there's an issue that makes the controller just think it's overheating, then go from there.

Thanks I'll give that a shot however the "Hot light" comes on after only moving about 100 yards if that so I know it's not had a chance to heat up. But I was not aware that the trany has diagnostic codes. Thanks!
