Allison transmission initial service

I have searched and read but the more I find, the more confusing it gets. I have a 2012 380 Cummins with an Allison 3000mh series transmission. For the initial filter / oil change, is it at 5000 miles or does the Allison display notify me? I have found and read both ways.

Allison was no help, I called them and they just referred me to a nearby transmission shop. I think I may need to call Allison again and hope to get someone more knowledgeable and helpful. Anyone else been through this and what did you find?

I would be surprised if your first service is at 5000 miles, but Ihave been surprised on this site before. My 2003 had its initial filter service in an RV at 25000 miles. That was on Dexron III ATF. Your transmission most likely has Transynd or equivalent synthetic ATFin it. Service is probably at even higher mileage than ours was.

Burfurd,

If you have TranSynd and the new High Capacity filters, then it depends on whether you have Prognostics and whether or not the Prognostics are turned "On" or "Off". Refer to the attached bulletin. The recommended filter change intervals are given in APPENDIX B, Tables 11 or 12.

10-TR-99, Rev R.pdf

With Prognostics "Off", the Lube and Main filter change intervals are 75,000 Miles (120 000 km), 3000 Hours or 36 Months.

With Prognostics "On", you can "Change filters when indicated by controller between fluid changes or 60 months, whichever occurs first."

Sure would be nice to know if my 'Prognostics' are on or off! How in the heck am I supposed to know that?

By the 'High Capacity Filters', I am assuming you are referring to the 4" rather than the 2" filters? Will check to see which when I crawl under the monster. My filter list that was given to me by the dealer gave me an Allison # of 295-45776 which I am hoping is correct.

Thanks for the help.....burfurd

High Capacity filters come in either the 2" or 4" pan depth. Most MH's (not all though) use the 2" pan to give more clearance. Both our Allisons have had the 2" pan

They also eliminated the intial 5000 mile filter change after a certain serial #. It's in the .pdf that Tom posted earlier: http://www.irv2.com/forums/attachmen...3&d=1344791957

Burford,

Here's a link to the Allison Prognostics brochure. You should be able to tell if you use the Push Button Shift Selector diagnostics. This info should also be in your Owner's Manual.

Can you tell us the year Allison started the Allison Prognostics? Could/would it be on my 2003 or 2004 Allison transmission? I believe it is a 3060.
Thanks
Bob

I believe I am good to go! I checked the display and all the info comes up for the Prognostics. I can just let the transmission tell me when to change the filters and fluid now!

Kewl!!!

Allison changed to the 3000 and 4000 MH in 2000. We had one that was a 3060 MH, kind of a changeover model in that it carried the longer 3000 MH warranty but still was called a 3060. Verifed the info with Allison using the transmission serial #.
