I have an '06 Fleetwood Discovery with an Allison transmission. I had the 1 transmission filter replaced at approximately 5,000 miles. At this point I have 20,000 miles on the coach. Do I need to have the transmission filters replaced again and have the transmission fluid changed?

Any maintenance advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

Here's the Alison Maintenance calculator.
Fluid/Filter Change Intervals: Service: Allison Transmission

And a detailed guide.

Thanks RvDude I appreciate the info.

Do you change your own transmission filters? I was thinking about doing it myself. Much easier than bringing it to a service dealer.

Thanks again.

Mike

Mike, changing the filters yourself is a no-brainer. You'll loose about 3/4 gal of Transynd in the process but it should only take you about 30 minutes.

I got 22000 miles and I just did mine yesterday, changed both filters and the fluid, It cost me a $280.00 total, It Is a bit expensive but I don't want to take any chances those transmissions are way to expensive.

Don't forget the magnet in the top of the old filter.

Ninos on my 1000 Allison filter there is a washer like magnet that lays on the top of the old filter, just pull it off and inspect it and replace it on your new one, they could be overlooked easly.

You didn't state what series transmission you have.If yours is a pusher M/H your trans will have 2 filters located in the bottom of the trans module.Being an 06 it should also have Transynd fluid in it and no need to worry about changing the fluid for a while.

No magnets in the 3000/4000 series trans. Only the smaller ones with spin on filters.

Change your own filters it's an easy job. The only mistake I made I checked my manual that said I have the 3000MH transmission which has the 2" sump. I purchase the filters and proceded with the maintenance. What I discovered is that my filters are 6" long rather than 4" long like the ones in the kit they sold me. Unfortunatlly I had already opened the kit and had dirty hands so it is no longer returnable. 50 some dollars poorer and smarter. Be carefull out there.

If possible you should buy from a Allison distributor. They retail for around $72.00 per kit.The Allison dealers buy theirs from the distributors and then mark them up. They were $56.00 per kit but Allison just had had a mark up.
