Allison Transmission Problem

Help! We are new to RVing and have bought a 2004 Monaco Dynasty. Great coach but we have had a transmission issue 3 times now. When we get ready to drive we put the transmission into drive and the electronic keypad shows "6". Then, when we roll forward it jumps to "1" and locks up the keypad and won't shift out of "1". The "Check Trans" light comes on. We turn it off and restart and the whole thing repeats. Any ideas?

It's going into "Limp-Mode" because it's not completing a shift from 1 to 2. You need to read the codes on the key pad and see what comes up then go from there.

Thank you all! We went online and now have spoken with Allison and it looks like the sensors are acting up and need replacing. Easy fix. Whew! We are new to RVing but have had a 44 foot trawler for 11 years and thought we would know a lot about the ins and outs of this coach. Surprise! I'm sure all of you are laughing at our naivete. It's ok. We are too. Thanks, again.

There are (3) three speed sensors and chances are you have a bad one but not "ALL" of them.

Wiring on my coach is set for 3 sensors, but one, plug in connector is capped off and trans only has 2 sensors.
Testing info says , once you have the codes, to clear them and swap the sensors , drive and get , hopefully a different code that will, allow you to replace the defective sensor.

We, all started out , with a little knowledge of our units and are learning as we go. Right now I know enough about my coach to be dangerous, to myself and everyone here in the forums.

That should be "Stewart and Stevenson".

Thanks, everyone for your input. Our new toy is back from the Transmission specialists and we needed one sensor, a connector and a few inches of wiring. Everything is working beautifully now. Great people to work with at Stewart and Stevenson Allison Division. Very professional and VERY knowledgeable. Recommend them to anyone in the Houston area in need of transmission work.

See you on the road soon.
