My motorhome is on a late 2003 Freightliner chassis. It is time to do the Allison filter change and install Transynd. I checked my manual that said I have the 3000MH transmission which has the 2" sump. I purchase the filters and proceded with the maintenance. What I discovered is that my filters are 6" long rather than 4" long like the ones in the kit they sold me. Unfortunatlly I had already opened the kit and had dirty hands so it is no longer returnable. 50 some dollars poorer and smarter. Be carefull out there.

I would think that if they sold you the wrong kit they should be responsible to take it back. Now if you picked it off the shelf yourself that is another situation.

I think I may be totally confused as to what I have. This is supposed to be an Allison 3000MH transmisssion with the shallow sump. Today I purchased the longer filters and proceeded to drain the sump. As I filled the transmission I also refilled the empty containers so that I would know how much fluid I had drained. What I ended up with was 20 quarts plus 24 ounces. Naturally there was some spillage plus the amount of fluid in my drain pan which was lined with plastic garbage can liners which I could not measure. Maybe not quite a full quart but probably pretty close bringing me up to 21 quarts. Since I only purchased 20 quarts I now have to make the decision as to whether to purchase another gallon of transynd to replace the 24+ ounces extra.

I would check the fluid level with the dip stick to be sure it was at least above the low level, then warm it up with a drive and check the fluid level with the shift pad (if you have one). I have the same transmission/engine arrangement and the 5 gallons is all I ever need. As long as the dip stick reads between low and full, and the shift pad doesn't read Low then you're okay.
