As the discussion of whether or not to go to Transynd often comes down to dollars cost compared to time between replacement, I started looking for the best prices. Tom convinced me to go to Transynd but I sure didn't like the prices I saw. I saw one dealer charging $125 per gallon and $25 for the filter.

I just today bought 3 gallons and a filter at Florida Detroit Diesel-Allison for $106 including tax. It was on special as advertised on their web site (fdda.com) but would have been only a few dollars higher at their regular price.

I couldn't even find 389 approved fluid that cheap. Actually I couldn't find it anywhere that I wouldn't have to pay freight.

Last I bought was $32 a gallon. Don't remember the filters price for my 3000 MH.

BILL: FWIW, I think ya done good! The little spin on filter for the 1000-2000 series should be less than 10 bucks, but the 3000-4000 series owners will probably need to spend a little more for their filters.

As you found, prices for TranSynd are not consistent, and it pays to shop. The Allison distributors seem to be the best sources at ~ $32.00/gal.

I checked on Ebay and found one guy selling it for $42.00/ gal and another selling a 5 gallon pail (unopened) for $140.00 including shipping, but I like the 1 gallon jugs at my "local" source, Stewart & Stevenson. Ed

I think you did real well on the price. Here in Traverse City, MI the transyd is $38/gal and the filter was $21. Plus tax of course.

Last week for my Allison 3000 I purchased 5 gallons of Mobile Delvac Syn AFT at a Freightliner in Medford shop for $38 a gallon and the Allison filter kit was $52 or $54 (no sales tax - another good thing about Oregon)

I bought 5 gallon drums Trans on E-bay for $125, set of 4" filters $48. Watch for dates on filters. Some had a 2006 date. Same filters but what would warranty say if they seen them.
