Cracking around Bell Housing bolts on Allison transmission
Has anyone had a problem with the cases on the Allison transmission cracking around the mounting bolts that go to the bell housing?

Ever try to move it incidentally with the emergency brake on or pull the brake just before the unit stopped? Other than that mashing the pedal to the floor on start from red light or mashing the brake. Also check your motor mounts and the trans mounts.

OK, I hesitate to reply because all I have is the second to third hand information. You know...I heard guy say a guy told him his Uncle said....that kind of info.
Anyway, someone I know is fighting his extended warranty provider who refuses to cover his transmission puking its guts out on the road. The old pre-existing condition claim. There were some comments from the transmission repair shop that they have manufactured extra support to some frames/chassis in the past to help carry more of the weight of the tranny on some coaches.
See, pretty much useless drivel. But I got to exercise my typing thumbs on the iPad!

What transmission/engine/chassis? Yes I have heard/seen cracked housings on Allison's. Sometimes it was due to the wrong bolts installed and backing out. Sometimes it was due to the owner 'jacking' up the horse power. Without more information, it is hard to say.

Thanks for the reply. The Allison model MT643 is connected to a Cummins 275 HP turbo diesel motor, on a freightliner chassis. The motor home is a 1999 Winnebago Adventurer. The motor and Trans are stock. The cracks are around four of the mounting bolts that go to the bell housing. Can these be welled?

I had a guy weld a crack in my old vette's aluminum bellhousing. Of course, I wrenched it out and took it to him. Anything can be done, if you know what you are doing. All it takes is time and money.

doubleknok___I had an issue but not quite the same,3060/300 cummins. I had the engine out last year for a clean up reaseal the trans.in and output seals,asI was bolting the units together the metric bolts did not feel rite! I ran a 7/16"N.C. course tap into the original holes with #8 7/16x 1-1/2 cap screws with #8 hard washers. That was a fix for my situation,hope it can help yours---Travel Truck TKS.

The first thing I would look for is how tight the bolts are. Cracking around the holes is a sign of loose bolts.

91 pusher on page one is having the same problem,are you sure its not casting flash?Sometimes the casting flash can look like cracks,see if you can put a feeler gauge,or something thin, in it to see if it is really a crack.Just a thought
