rbc185.....At the top of the transmiission key pad is a mode switch. When you push it, you place it into Econ mode and a small red light comes on at the corner of the button. Each time you shut down the coach, the transmission defaults back to the Econ mode being off.

The Econ mode changes the shift pattern so that you stay in a gear longer on rolling hills. If you turn it off, the transmission will downshift sooner. It's suppose to increase mileage. I leave mine in Econ mode unless I know I'm about to climb a steep grade. I turn mine off before the grade to make sure my coach shifts sooner on the grade.

My Allison book says to use it on flat to rolling hills, with cruise control for better fuel economy. I don't have my Allison manual with me but found this on their website and copied a warning from my coach manual (have that on hard drive).

If you need more info I will be back to the coach in a week or so, I could copy some of it for you. Mine is the 6 speed version.

From Allison's website:
http://www.allisontransmission.com/s...p?CategoryID=4

From coach manual:
CAUTION DO NOT use Economy Mode in heavy stop and go traffic or mountainous terrains. Frequent shifting while using heavy throttle occurs in Economy Mode and increases transmission fluid temperature. Exit Economy Mode until road conditions improve.
