Assuming you're talking about the Mode indicator light........when in Economy mode light would be ON. Don't be at all surprised if you fail to notice any difference between Economy mode and normal mode.

Not necessarily.

"Normal" for me, on relatively flat terrain, is with the light and the economy mode on. The economy mode will not allow the transmission to down shift as fast as it will with the economy mode off, thus slightly better fuel economy.

If your RPM is lower in the econ mode, something is not right. The only thing the econ mode does is hold the engine in a higher gear longer before it down shifts, thus very slightly improving MPG.

I notice it accelerates faster if the Econ mode is off. Try it from a dead stop and floor it.

Emphasis on slightly better fuel economy.....but I had a hard time distinguishing how much. Did appreciate less downshifting in rolling hills, so it must be a little better

Hi cargin,
I never use economy mode. For me, Mr. Allison and Mr. Cummins computers make good decisions with regard to the gear to choose. I've never had the constant up/down shifting scenario that might cause one to use the economy mode.

When econ is on, it also up shifts between the gears at a lower RPM.

I was told by an Allison tech that Economy mode sets wide open throttle position at 80% where economy Off sets it at 100%. That causes the shift points on the transmission to occur at different rpms. I have documented a 0.3 mpg increase over ~50000 miles when in Economy mode. That adds up over time. The only time I'm not in economy mode is when we're in the mountains.

X2. Only time not in economy mode is when the hills are causing down shifts and up shifts to frequently, then it goes to normal mode until the rolling hills and flat terrain are back in view.
