Error code P2793

Returning home from a short trip, everything working fine till I was backing in storage barn. I did shift faster between D, N and R than normal as I was turning around to back in. Not sure if that could cause the code but Check Transmission lite came on for a few minutes then went off.

It's a 3000 series on a 2008 Discovery 40x 350hp. Once unloaded I checked the code on the shifter. P2793. I also found per shifter, that I was 2 quarts low on fluid.

P2793 indicates a shifter communication problem. Anyone know if this is a problem that I might have caused with my quick shifts or if it needs to be looked at?

I'll get the fluid level back to where it needs to be but don't know about the code. No sign of fluid leaking under coach.

Thanks

You should be able to push the buttons as fast as you like and not cause a trouble code.

wire 134 could be open or shorted to ground. Take a peek at the chassis harness and see if the harness is close to exhaust or any place it could rub against and rub off insulation causing a short.

Thanks, I will check that out although I found nothing like that when I looked before. I think I might have a button issue. It only occurs when I shift to reverse. It shifts but shows the error. I started making more deliberate pushes to the reverse button, making sure it is fully pushed in. Since doing this no error has occurred.

I try to avoid backing up when I can but my fear is a sudden loss of reverse while out on a trip.

Your thoughts on the shifter buttons going bad?
