Fair price for service on a 3000MH
Hello,
What would be a fair price for an Allison shop to change the filters and TranSynd on a 3000MH transmission? (in Texas)
Thanks,
Mark

other people may answer your question more precisely... fyi - i bought the allison filter kit and 4 galons of transynd for $247 including tax from a allison dealer recently.
you may just add 1,5 - 2 hour labor that should be very close to you estimate.

After buying our rig in 2008 I wanted to have a transmission service so got on the Allison website and found a qualified shop near where we live. Called them up and was quoted $650, YIKES.
I then bought the oil and filter on line and did it myself. Not a hard or messy job, probably cost me ~$250. Since then I've changed the filter and lost ~1 gallon of oil doing this, others report a higher number when changing just the filter.

$500 would be a fair price to replace 19 qts Transynd and 2 filters. About 1.5 hrs labor.

Thanks for all the replies.
The price I was quoted and I just verified the quote, was $716 plus tax.
I am looking for another service center near the next stop.

Waiting on a callback from another company.

Why don't you call and see if you can find a mobile tech to come out and do it where you are. Heck I would do it for $100.00+ parts and fluid. It isn't that hard.
Where in Texas are you?

At the moment I am near Somerville. I was checking service centers in Austin as I will be passing near Tuesday.
I am thinking of doing it myself. What do you use to catch the 4+ gallons of fluid? It is the initial catch I am thinking about. I can transfer the old fluid to the new fluid empty bottles for disposal.
Thanks Miked2145. Using the same prices, mine would be
$540 or so, 1/2 the fluid.

Speedco might be an option.
I have only heard good things about them.

Yes, I used Speedco for the last PM lube service and it was good. I asked about the transmission service and was told Speedco does not service transmissions.

I have a big catch pan for changing the oil. If you don't have on look at small mortar boxes at walmart or home depot. Here is a video on how to.

A 55G plastic drum holds a bit over 1G per inch of height. i cut one down to 12" high. It is very stable to work with. To transfer used fluids from the cut-down drum to the jugs I just emptied, I use an old aluminum pitcher I've had around for many years for just such a purpose. I then take the used oil to a mechanic shop in town that burns used oils to heat the building. Anti-freeze goes to a recycling center.

Thanks for the replies.
The oil catch pan I have is not large enough. I was thinking about one of the long plastic under bed storage bins from Walmart. Low cost.
Interesting on the torque values in the video.
From the Allison manual:
