Cool Fluid and filter change on a 2000 MD3060

Getting ready to change the fluid and filters again on my trans. Is it necessary to use the TransSyd fluid when I only drive less than 6000 mi per yer due to the high cost of fuel. I have changed both the filters and fluid on two other occasions myself and find it easy to do. If I do use TransSyd will I have to again change the fluid soon. Dont have a warranty issue so is Dex III ok to use. Thanks, Bob S.

I believe you can go 3 years or 50,00 miles after your intial change FWIR to tes-295 atf (Transynd). Then extend it out farther on the second fluid change as most of the fluid in the system would be Transynd or any approved tes-295 fluid. What I remember 6 years or 300k. Read some of the other posts or go to the Allison site on atf fluids and you'll get all the numbers you need.
I just found a shop here that sells Transynd for 36.00 gallon. Mobile Delvac syn was 34.00 gallon @ (oem-engineering 1-877-549-9696) and 22.00 shipped for 5 gallons and is an approved tes-295 syn atf

Bob,

Dex III is no longer licensed by GM and so there is no one "watching the store" as far as making sure products labeled Dex III meet specifications.

The TES 295 specification is so much superior that, IMHO, it makes great sense to use one of those products (Transynd or equal). It takes 2 changes to go by the extended change interval. The extended interval is 36 months for the filters and 48 months for the fluid. My plan is to have the fluid tested at 36 months and if ok, go to 48 months & change both. It makes no sense to change the filters and not the fluid.

Steve is point on about the "making" of Dextron III no longer watched by GM. I recently changed out my tranny fluid and filters and used Delvac which is TES 295 approved. After the first change, you have to change again in 12 months or 15,000 miles. After the second change you can switch to the longer interval (both mileage and time).
