What would be a normal amount of Transmission fluid used over a year period using the coach about once a month?

I changed the fluid about a year ago and so I was wondering how much the transmission would use over a years time because I had to add some.

Hi Jim,
For me it is none. If the tranny is refilled correctly after the filter change there should be no fluid used. It is a closed system. The only way I know for the fluid level to go down is for it to leak out.

After the fluid change. the system may have "burped". I'd not be concerned yet. Monitor the fluid level. See what the trend is before getting concerned.

BTW, you have a nice coach. I had a 1978 Brave. Toured the lower 48 states with it over 12 years. Only had to do routine maintenance.

The transmission should not use any fluid. If you are adding fluid at all, perhaps your tranny or cooler lines have a leak.

Thanks for the responses, another question is how much fluid is required including changing the spin on filter? This is a 1000 series transmission.

Maybe I will change the fluid and put the correct amount in then monitor from there.

Jim, you might want to call Allison and they can help you with providing very specific information for your transmission. They have been very helpful: 800-524-2303. SteveG

Hi Jim,
Consider going here. Answer a couple of questions and get the fluid and fliter(s) change intervals. In a coach, this stuff basically lasts "forever". Also, like previously posted, consider calling Allison. Have your tranny serial number, when you call.

I have not added any fluid in the 3 years we have had the coach. Thank God, at $30 + for a gallon ....
