My tranny once in awhile hesitates on shifting, usually during acceleration. And sometimes when I start the engine it takes a minute to go into gear even when I am pushing D. But both only seem to happen when the tranny is around 160 degrees.

When I push the up and down arrows on the controler at the same time, the read out shows d 1. Then it blinks 2 2 then 1 4. I have recorded a video of the readout: http://www.strategydepot.com/control.avi. Anyone knows what this means?? And most important how do I fix it?

Tranny Info:
Allison MD3060 116,000K on it.
Serial# 6510031412
Running Transynd Fluid (changed less than a year ago)

Most likely not something you can fix. Take it to an AUTHORIZED Allison repair facility and pay the "pros". Not nowing what the error codes are, continued driving could cause real serious damage so I would have the "pros" analyze and fix it ASAP before it grows into a more serious problem that will cost a lot more money.

From my Allison book.

d1 = Diagnostic mode, first code in memory

22 14 = Engine speed sensor

A trip to the shop is in order.

I have a 1999 ISB 5.9 Cummins 24 valve that idles at 750 RPM. If I have my foot on the throttle and increase the engine speed to 800 RPM, the transmission will not go into gear regardless of what button I push, although in all honesty, I have never tried reverse at this higher idle speed. My engine throttle is electronically controlled but I don't know if yours is or not, so this might not apply to your unit.

However, Route 66 might have already diagnosed your problem. If the transmission controller cannot determine the engine speed, it might not allow the trans to engage. It has been a while but I think your engine controller determines the RPM as a function of the cam and crank sensors. If either has failed or has a wiring/connector issue, the trans controller will not be able to read the engine RPM so it stays in nuetral. There is a Dodge/Cummins diesel forum that I visit ocassionally that might have your answer. I will find the hyper link to the site and post it here as soon as I can. Be back in a few minutes.

This site has a lot of experienced guys posting. It applies only to the 5.9 Cummins but it might help with your situation.
