My 3000MH transmission was due for a complete fluid & filter change. I called Allison and asked what the fluid capacity was. The rep. told me 19 quarts, if I change the filters at the same time.
I went to my local Cat dealer, bought a set of filters and 5 gallons of TranSynd (at $48 a gallon).
After I was finished, I took the coach on a 30 minute drive. When I got back, I checked the trans fluid level via the shift controller. The display indicated that the trans was 2 quarts low. I know for a fact that I replaced the fluid with exactly 19 quarts, per Allison.
Anyone else run into this?
Craig

I recently changed Transynd fluid and filters also. I had a small amount (maybe 2 qts) of Transynd left over in a gallon container from a previous change. I assumed it was 2 qts and added another what I think was 17 qts for a total of 19. The stick showed that the trans was at full level but after driving the shift pad indicated I was 2 qts low. All my calcs were based on the 5 gal pail being a full 5 gallons.......maybe it was short.
My refill method was to pour from the 5 gal pail into a gallon container 4 times then plus 3 qts. I just figured I made a calc mistake. But, according to the pad it's full now.

When I did my 04 Tropical Allison 3000MH transmisssion with the shallow sump. I purchased the longer filters and proceeded to drain the sump. As I filled the transmission I also refilled the empty containers so that I would know how much fluid I had drained. What I ended up with was 20 quarts plus 24 ounces. Naturally there was some spillage plus the amount of fluid in my drain pan which was lined with plastic garbage can liners which I could not measure. Maybe not quite a full quart but probably pretty close bringing me up to 21 quarts.

Craig, after you drive the MH around to get the fluid hot make sure you level the MH before you check the amount. If the MH is not level then it will not be an accurate amount shown. I got fooled once by this.

When I changed mine last May it took 19 quarts to refill and the pad showed OL-OK.
According to Allison if your pad shows 2 quarts low add only one quart and drive a few miles and recheck it. Don't add the full 2 quarts.

Craig, I just decided to check my fluid level again while refueling at a truck stop because I had just changed my filters. As talked about I leveled the MH and checked mine and it showed two quarts low. I sat and waited a few minutes then it only showed one quart low so I sat some more and it now said OK. I bet I waited about 6-7 minutes for it to really stable out.

Mike, what you did is correct --- as the unit sits and runs at idle, you will see the level change on the pad check. I use the dip stick when I change my tranny fluid. I have the deep 4" sump and according to the Allison instruction sheet that comes with the filters, a filter change and sump dump will need 19 quarts to refill. That is what it takes each time that I do mine. When checking the full level after a change, you need to make sure that you have the tranny up to full operating temperature -- otherwise, it will show low and can easily overfill. Also make sure you idle for about 5 minutes with the tranny in neutral before using the pad to check the level.

Bdpreece, If understand you correctly the longer filters will fit in a 3000MH with the 2 inch pan? I was under the impression that I needed the 4 inch filters ending PN 29548987. I am going to an Allison shop to get filters Tuesday so i will ask.
By the way I found 5 gallons of Transynd (Allison) on Ebay for 125.99 shipped.
