Are you sure the engine was not on fast idle?

Don't think I have a fast idle feature....plus this happened shortly after I pulled into rv park....things were still pretty hot, no need for fast idle. Thks for the suggestion tho!

I have heard, "If it works, don't fix it."

My apologies TRAILERKING you were right....had the techie out this AM and that was the problem...for some reason or other the fuel pump sticks in a faster idle...anything over 900 rpm & she won't shift.....reduced idle speed, but still hangs up once in a while...gonna have to pay closer attention or overhaul the fuel pump (not)!!!!
Education is expensive stuff!!!!

I know , I'm posting , way after the fact.
But a problem I found may have some bearing , throttle pedal hinge was rusted, from shampooing carpet. Cleaning and lubing the hinge cured my problem.
This may not be any help, depending on the injector pump you have , but the Dodge ISB's with the inline mechanical pump 1994 to 98. Had a campaign to replace throttle return springs, weak or binding springs due to rust could be an issue. The Cummins parts would not be cheap, but not as much as a pump o'haul.
