My W24 has the MH 2100 Allison with Transynd in it. The chassis gvw is listed at 24K pounds with a combined weight of 30K. I always assumed I could tow 6K pounds if I upgraded the hitch from a 5K to a 6K. I called WH to check and they say no. Then I find in the green owners manual the tow rating is different for the 6 speed and 5 speed Allison for this year. I've read somewhere it's actually (mechanically) the same trans.

Question: Is it ok to tow (lets say) 5800 pounds with the MH 2100? Is it a "deeper" 1st gear ratio in the 6 speed that gives it more capability? Not sure why they put a 30,000 capacity on the chassis if it can't do it...

Anyone know for sure?

Thanks

Both transmissions have the same 3.10:1 1st gear. 1st thru 5th ratios are the same. The 6 speed adds the 0.61:1 6th gear.

The 5 and 6 speed W24s both have a Dana S130 5.86 rearend.

The 5 speed may be better suited to tow 6000#s than the 6 speed.

In 2006 when the 6 speed was introduced a few early W24s came with a 6.14 Dana S130. Winnebago may have thought the W24 would not be able to pull the tall 0.61 6th gear. Today the W24 comes with the 5.86 rearend.

I would be more concerned with hitch weight than trailer weight if towing an enclosed car trailer.

Hi Tom-Should'a guessed you'd be up on those numbers! I wonder why their resistance to support that "as advertised" capability? It wasn't like it was questionable, the WH tech guy was absolute in the negative. Must be some other reason...although like I said in that green owners manual it does allow for the 6 speed to do it.

I had checked with WH while on our trip out west because my nephew was thinking of selling his 18' Haulmark car hauler. It would have put me about 800# over so I put that idea on the back burner for now.

Thanks

I'll PM you.
